My niece Tammy and her 12 year old daughter from SD arrived Thursday night. Tammy's trike, Diva, and Ariann's un-named bike rode well on the rack that had been made for them.
Tammy stopped at our daughters house, so our grand daughter Sarah came along to hang out with Ariann, while we got things ready to go. We could hear the 2 of them, along with Tony laughing and splashing in the lake as we went about our tasks. Sarah was too small to handle both oars of the row boat, so he put one on each oar. There was some jerking around of the boat, but finally they learned to work togther and got underway. Then it was onto the paddle boat. No bait, so no fishing today, but still the anchor had to go out. A jerk, then the rope went slack, good bye anchor. The rudder in our old paddle boat can be obnoxious so Tony wasn't surprised when Ariann had trouble steering the thing, but no matter what she did, they only went in circles. Thinking that the rope had gotten tangled in the rudder, Tony pulled it in, surprised to find the anchor still attached. No more circles, and they were soon at the shore. Sarah loves the little green kayak, so naturally that was the next thing that went into the water. It is small, with a snub nosed look, it might even be more of boat than a kayak. Regardless, it is just the right size for a kid to maneuver . 2 people will fit, but it is really only made for one. I can only imagine how low in the water they were riding with 3 of them in it. Glad they all can swim and had life jackets on.
They were having so much fun that Tammy and I weren't even missed, as we got stuff together . Some hot weather is predicted. Tammy told me about these cooling cloths she bought called Frog Toggs. A chamois type thing that is wet down and kept in a sealed bag. When you get hot you can put it on your head or around your neck, it stays cool fro quite some time. I wanted to be sure I had some too, as Tony overheats rather quickly sometimes. When we got them out of the package we had to wet them down and let them dry. They dry as stiff as can be,. We were glad we had been forewarned about that on the back of the package.
The night before we need them for riding, we will wet them down, tuck them in their bags and put them in our panniers. They will be ready and waiting to cool us down.
Due to some heavy rain on the trip to MI, Diva's chains and the unnamed bike's chain, had road grit in them and needed a good cleaning. I showed Tammy how to use a chain cleaner and Simple Green. She and Ariann were soon hard at work, their chains were shining, in no time.
Rollin, Diva and the un -named bike, all got spiffed up, and checked over. Couldn't find a picture of the other 2, so you'll have to settle for one of Rollin.
Next on the agenda was getting the trailer hooked up and loaded. So grateful to the Lord for his provision of this nice cargo trailer to transport the bikes and gear in. It will make things so much easier this year.
The trailer has nice shelves in the front, but we didn't have a cargo net, so opted to put the gear around the trikes and bike.
Rollin went in first.
Followed by Diva, un-named and some gear.
The small task of loading was behind us, the job of riding across the state of Michigan, ahead. With God's help we will get it done.
